News Release for May 26-June 2

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a variety of calls for service during the week of May 26-June 2. Sheriff Scott Keeler said deputies made a felony drug arrest during a traffic stop and took reports of stolen checks and burglary. He noted three individuals were also arrested on outstanding felony warrants.

Mitchell arrested on Johnson County felony warrant

Julia Mitchell

On June 2, Julia Mitchell, 52, Collins, was arrested in St. Clair County on a Johnson County felony warrant for failing to appear in court on a class C felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. The charge stems from an incident in June 2012. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.

Felony drug arrest

April Sturgeon

On May 31, April Sturgeon, 20, Roscoe, was arrested in Osceola for possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony. Sturgeon was taken into custody by a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office deputy during a traffic stop in Osceola. On June 1, formal charges were filed and an arrest warrant was obtained. During the stop, a search of the vehicle discovered a plastic bag and a straw with a white powdery residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Sturgeon also admitted to having a controlled substance on her person prior to being booked into the St. Clair County Jail. Once at the jail, a plastic bag containing a crystal substance and a straw was retrieved from Sturgeon. The items were collected as evidence to be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab for analysis. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Burglary reported on SE 436 Road           

On May 30, a St. Clair County deputy took a report from Penny Timmerman regarding items being stolen from her property on SE 436 Road, Osceola. Timmerman reported she has had numerous items stolen from her property and from inside of a house. Items stolen include a Honda generator, Craftsman stand-up air compressor, large air tank, a roll of chain link fence with posts, fish tank, miscellaneous jewelry, two antique jewelry boxes, and crystal ware. The total value of the items was estimated at $4,150. A request for prosecution was signed and the investigation is ongoing.

Michael Stuart

Stuart arrested on felony warrant

On May 29, Michael Stuart, 29, Osceola, was arrested on a St. Clair County felony warrant for failure to appear in court on a class C felony charge of burglary-second degree. A court date of June 20 was given and bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety. The charge stems from an incident on Aug. 20, 2013 when Robert Lily reported someone trying to enter his house in Roscoe through a screen. He identified the man as a neighbor. An investigation led to Stuart’s arrest.

Stolen checks

On May 29, a St. Clair County deputy took a report from Billy Inman regarding stolen checks. Inman stated he received a letter from Casey's General Store, Weaubleau, regarding 10 bad checks that were written. The checks totaled over $1,000 dollars. Inman stated the account has been closed since the end of 2013. The investigation is ongoing.

Robert Foster

Foster arrested on felony warrant

On May 28, Robert Foster, 32, Osceola was arrested on a St. Clair County felony warrant charging him with a class C felony of theft/stealing. A court date of June 20 was given and bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety. The charge stems from an incident on April 15 when a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to property on SE V Highway in reference to a stealing.

Jack Foster reported an individual in a Dodge Dakota truck pulling a small trailer was seen stealing scrap from his property. Evidence was located at the scene and the investigation discovered the suspect vehicle was located at Meredith Recycling, Montrose. Contact was made with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and a deputy was dispatched to the location to stop and hold the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and contact was made with two male subjects in the vehicle. Items were recovered, identified and released to Jack Foster. Arrest warrants for Robert Foster and Zachary Harper, 25, Kansas City, were issued on May 16. The arrest warrant for Harper is still active and has not been served.

Additional teams sought for fundraising co-ed softball tournament

 Three teams have registered for a fundraising co-ed softball tournament hosted by the St Clair County Sheriff's Office to be held at the ball field in Osceola on Saturday, June 21. Teams can register for $150 and the tournament begins at 9 a.m. Concessions will be available and all proceeds from the event will go to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Children's Wish Fund. For additional information on registering a team, contact David Lile, 417-646-2259; or Jimi Jones, 417-309-9604.
