News Release for June 16-23, 2014

    St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office deputies made three warrant arrests during the week of June 16-23. Sheriff Scott Keeler said deputies arrested a suspect from a burglary that occurred on June 22 on NE 1021 Road, Osceola. He stated a second arrest was made in a theft/stealing case from an incident in Collins on June 13 and an Osceola man was arrested on a St. Clair County misdemeanor warrant and a Henry County felony warrant.

    On June 23, Ernie Haas, 31, Clinton, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class B felony of first degree burglary and a class C felony of first degree tampering with a motor vehicle. The charges stem from a burglary at the Ron and Shelley Garrison residence on NE 1021 Road, Osceola.

    On June 22, St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to the Garrison residence in reference to a male subject attempting to steal a vehicle from the property. The Garrison’s said they woke up after hearing a noise behind their house. After investigating the noise, it was learned their Ford F-350 pickup truck had been moved from the front of the house to behind the house.

    Ron Garrison stated he walked closer toward the truck and observed a white male subject sitting inside his pickup going through items the center console. Garrison said he identified himself and spoke to the subject for a brief moment and the man left the area, quickly walking into the woods.  He reported a Garmin GPS valued at $120 was stolen from the truck. The GPS was later recovered, identified, and returned to the Garrison’s. St. Clair County deputies arrested Haas the same day on three misdemeanor warrants from Henry and Bates counties.

Jerry Eaton arrested on warrants

    On June 22, Jerry Eaton, 42, Osceola, was arrested by St. Clair County deputies on a no bond St. Clair County felony warrant for commitment. In April, Eaton pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges, resisting/interfering with arrest, detention or stop and driving while revoked/suspended-second or subsequent offense. He was sentenced to serve ten days in the St. Clair County Jail beginning May 9. Eaton failed to appear to serve the sentence.

    The charges stem from an incident in August 2013 when a St. Clair County deputy attempted to pull over a motorcycle Eaton was driving following a domestic disturbance. Eaton looked back and attempted to flee from the deputy.

    Eaton was also arrested on a Henry County warrant for a class D felony charge of operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license-third and subsequent offense. The charge stems from an incident in February. Bond in that case is set at $4,500 cash or surety. Eaton was given a court date of Aug. 1 in St. Clair County and July 18 in Henry County.               

Generator reported stolen

    On June 21, a St. Clair County deputy took a report of stealing from Larry and Debbie Thomas. The Thomas’ reported a Craftsman 3,000 watt generator was stolen from a shed on their property on NW 101 Road, Osceola. The generator was valued at $700. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing.

Second arrest made in theft/stealing case in Collins

    On Wednesday, June 18, Brandon Burton, 30, Weaubleau, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class C felony of theft/stealing-value is $500 or more but less than $25,000. The charge stems from an investigation that started on June 13 when a St. Clair County deputy was on routine patrol near Collins. The deputy observed a stranded motorist pulled in a driveway alongside Highway 54, across the road from Mike's Wrecker Service. The deputy stopped to assist and two people, Burton and William Dane, 44, Flemington, were identified. The registration information from the vehicle was obtained and the deputy cleared the scene and continued patrolling. A follow up investigation by the deputy revealed evidence a stealing had occurred.

    The investigation led to the recovery of several radiators and batteries at a residence in Polk County. Mike Garlett Sr. from Mike’s Wreaker Service was contacted and identified the property. The value of the items was estimated at $5,705. On June 14, Dane was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with felony theft/stealing.
