News Release for July 21-27, 2014

St. Clair County Sheriff Office deputies took a variety of reports during the week of July 27. Sheriff Scott Keeler said deputies made several arrests and took reports of theft, burglary, property damage and fraud.

Theft

On July 22, a St. Clair County deputy responded to a theft in progress in Collins. Melvin Humphreys reported he observed an individual driving a dump truck take the battery from inside his boat parked near the entrance of the Pilot truck stop. Humphreys said he observed the driver get out of the truck and go into the median on Highway 13. An attempt to locate the truck and make contact with the driver was unsuccessful. Humphreys reported he located his boat battery in the median. A suspect was identified and the investigation is ongoing.

Burglary report

On July 22, a St. Clair County deputy took a burglary report from Dude Vaughn at his residence on SE TT Highway. Vaughn reported several coins and bills stolen from his residence.  Coins included several silver dollars, silver half dollars, and Susan B. Anthony dollars.  Vaughn also estimated there were fifty $2 bills dated 1928 that were stolen. The value of the items was estimated at $500-700. The investigation is ongoing

Property damage

On July 21, a St. Clair County deputy took a report from Curtis Wisner in reference to property damage on farm ground he rents. Wisner reported on July 18 he drove to a field he rents on Highway 54 and observed tire tracks cutting across the soybeans he has planted there. It was noted the tracks appear to have been made by a large agricultural sprayer type vehicle. Wisner said the tracks run between two pieces of property. Damage to the crops was estimated at $300. The investigation is ongoing.

Report of fraud

On July 20, a St. Clair County deputy took a report of fraud from Ronald Middaugh and Linda Silvey, Collins. Middaugh and Silvey reported two fraudulent checks were debited out of their checking account at Bank of Urbana. A check was made out to Staples for $357.70 on July 11 and Lowe’s for $310.58 on July 11. The investigation is continuing.

Sheriff Keeler urges those with any information concerning ongoing investigations to contact the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line, 417-646-5832, or email to tips@scsomo.org.
