St. Clair County Sheriff's Office News Release for Dec. 1-7, 2014

     St. Clair County deputies responded to a variety of calls for service from Dec. 1-7. Sheriff Scott Keeler said deputies made four arrests and took reports stealing, property damage and burglary.

Ongoing investigations

Reports of stealing

     On Dec. 6, a St. Clair County deputy took a stealing report on NE Old Highway 13, Osceola. James Chamberlain reported 50 pounds of scrap copper was taken from his property without his permission. The value of the copper was estimated at $125.

     On Dec. 5, a St. Clair County deputy took a report from the Roscoe C-1 School District in reference to the theft of a laptop computer.

Reports of property damage

     On Dec. 6, a St. Clair County deputy took a report of property damage at the Brush Creek Access, Osceola. Friends of Brush Creek Vice-President James Terry reported damage to a grassy area on the property.

     On Dec. 5, a St. Clair County deputy took a report from Nora Smith in reference to a mailbox that of was damaged on SW 800 Road, El Dorado Springs.|

Burglary report

     On Dec. 2, St. Clair County deputies took a report on NE 230 Road, Osceola, in reference to copper being stolen from a barn and residence. Kevin Wisner reported he leases the property for his farming operation and noticed copper wire, a tool box, several small motors, and other miscellaneous items setting next to the barn when he arrived. Wisner advised the items should have been located in various places throughout the barn. Wisner stated he checked the residence located on the property and noticed someone had entered it through a window. He also checked the garage and noticed copper wiring had been cut. Property owner Richard Scott reported a glass jar containing coins, two plastic totes containing linens, and pieces of copper wire were removed from the structures.

Local sex offender arrested

     On Dec. 4, Cody Gray, 21, Osceola, was arrested for failing to maintain registration as a sex offender. It was discovered Gray did not register after he lost his job, obtained a new phone number, and started a new job. Gray was booked into the St. Clair County Jail and later released pending formal charges. Gray can be charged with a class D felony for each of the alleged violations.

     Sheriff Keeler reminds citizens a current list of sex offenders registered in St. Clair County is available on the sheriff’s office website. There is also a map feature in which most of the addresses for offenders appear although some addresses do not function properly on Google Maps.

Warrant arrests

Steven Mackey

Steven Mackey

     On Dec. 3, Steven Mackey, 56, Osceola, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class C felony of unlawfully possessing a firearm. The charge stems from an incident with the Missouri Department of Conservation on Aug. 14. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Clint Wilkerson Sr.

Clint Wilkerson Sr.

     On Dec. 2, Clint Wilkerson Sr., 43, Collins, was arrested in St. Clair County on three misdemeanor warrants from Polk County, failing to register a motor vehicle, no seatbelt and no insurance. The warrant was issued on Nov. 24 and stems from an incident on Sept. 26. The total bond is set at $350 cash only.

Thomas Vanholt

     On Dec. 1, Thomas Vanholt, 36, Humansville, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant for failing to appear in court on a class C felony charge of theft/stealing. The warrant was issued Oct. 6 and stems from an incident in December 2012. Bond is set at $25,000 cash/surety.

     On Dec. 3, a St. Clair County arrest warrant was issued for Mitchell Gibbs, 23, Burlington, Ks., for failing to appear in court on a class C felony charge of passing bad checks-$500 or more. The charge stems from an incident in July 2013. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

     On Dec. 3, a St. Clair County arrest warrant was issued for Byron Potts, 50, Wheatland, for failing to appear in court on a class D felony of non support. The original charge stems from an incident in July 2009. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only.

Jesse Sorrell

     On Dec. 1, a St. Clair County arrest warrant was issued for Jesse Sorrell, 31, Ponca, OK., for a probation violation on an original charge of sexual misconduct or attempt involving a child under 15 years-old first offense, a class D felony.

Gary Higgins

     On Dec. 1, a St. Clair County arrest warrant was issued for Gary Higgins, 49, Kansas City, for failing to appear in court on a class D felony charge of driving while suspended. The charge stems from an incident in February 2013. Bond is set at $2,500 cash only.
