The charge stems from an incident on May 8 when a St. Clair County deputy was attempting to locate and recover a possible stolen license plate that was on Eaton's black 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck. A license plate on the front of the truck checked back as stolen from Henry County. While checking the VIN number on the dash of the truck, the deputy observed the metal VIN tag had been tampered with. The metal rivets holding it were loose and the tag was laying loose on the dash. A check of the secondary VIN number location did not match the VIN tag on the dash.
